Onaya Science is an independent research organisation dedicated to translating Indigenous wisdom of plant medicines into scientific terminology.
Respectful listening & reciprocal relationships - We believe that plant medicines such as ayahuasca can be understood through more than one paradigm. By recognising the value of both traditional and Western ways of thinking we can come to a better understanding of nature, ourselves, and the world at large.

World Ayahuasca Forum 2026
ONAYA is proud to be a Community Partner of the World Ayahuasca Forum, a historic convergence of Indigenous leaders, researchers, practitioners, artists, and communities. We’re honoured that Dr Simon Ruffell and Dr WaiFung Tsang will be speaking at the Forum, joining conversations on Indigenous-Western collaboration, psychedelic science, and respectful bridge-building.

Exploring new paths to recovery with Athletes Journey Home
Together with Athletes Journey Home, Onaya Science is researching the potential of psychedelic-assisted retreats for athletes affected by traumatic brain injury - including UFC and other MMA fighters, as well as competitors from extreme and high-impact sports. The project explores changes in brain function, mental wellbeing and long-term recovery.

Collaborating with the Heroic Hearts Project and the University of Melbourne
Onaya Science is currently collaborating with the Heroic Hearts Project and the University of Melbourne to investigate the impact of ayahuasca retreats for military veterans who have experienced trauma.
